Fire Extinguisher Service & Fire Protection Maintenance in Malaysia
Servicing, refilling and maintenance of fire protection equipment by a JBPM-registered contractor, supported by fire safety training and equipment supply.
From fire extinguisher servicing and system maintenance to fire drill training, DZNC helps keep fire protection equipment in good working order and building occupants prepared for an emergency.
Fire Protection Maintenance: Preventing Hidden Failures
Fire protection equipment can appear in good condition for years and still fail when it is needed. A fire extinguisher can gradually lose pressure as its seals harden and the cylinder corrodes, while fire alarm panels, detectors and call points need regular checks to stay reliable. Scheduled fire protection maintenance helps identify these issues early, and fire drill training ensures occupants know how to respond in the first few minutes of a fire.
Fire Safety Maintenance Requirements in Malaysia
- Fire protection systems must be kept in proper working order for Fire Certificate renewal
- Fire drills should be held at least once a year in certified buildings

Frequently Asked Questions?
How often should fire extinguishers be serviced?
In Malaysia, fire extinguishers are serviced once a year by a JBPM-registered contractor and inspected by BOMBA, which renews each unit’s licence sticker. Building management should also check them visually every month, and any extinguisher that has been used must be refilled immediately.
What does fire protection maintenance include?
Scheduled inspection and testing of the fire alarm, sprinklers, hose reels, risers, pumps, emergency lighting and extinguishers, with a report after each visit listing any faults and recommended repairs. Up-to-date maintenance records also make Fire Certificate renewal smoother.
How often should a fire drill be held?
BOMBA expects certified buildings to hold a fire drill at least once a year. Failing to carry out drills is one of the common reasons buildings do not meet the conditions of their Fire Certificate.
How is a fire extinguisher licence renewed in Malaysia?
Fire extinguishers in business premises are serviced once a year by a contractor registered with the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), and then inspected by BOMBA. Once a unit passes, BOMBA issues a renewal licence sticker for that extinguisher, which needs to be renewed every year.
Where can fire extinguishers be bought in Malaysia?
DZNC supplies new fire extinguishers in a range of types and sizes, including ABC dry powder, CO2, foam and wet chemical units, together with servicing and refilling.
